General Dentistry
We offer
routine preventive and oral hygiene services for all ages. The most
important step of preventive care is detection at an early stage. This
can help you avoid costly and painful tooth problems.
Conditions such as tooth decay and gum disease (periodontal disease) are
mainly caused by the buildup of debris on the teeth and are major causes
of tooth loss in adulthood.
Routine dental checkups aid in the early discovery of these conditions
allowing us to treat them before they get out of hand.
Our preventive services include:
» Cleaning or hygiene,
» Dental sealants,
» Regular checkups and
» Patient education
to help keep your smile looking good and feeling good.
General Dentistry Restorative Procedures
During a dental examination we use instruments, tests, radiographs and clinical expertise to diagnose potential or existent disease states or
problems. The general dentist's primary focus is on the oral cavity, head and neck. An individualized plan is developed to prevent or treat
disease states of the oral cavity. In the case of cosmetic dentistry, your general dentist will work with you to identify your esthetic goals.
» Dental Fillings:
Dental fillings are used to repair damage to the structure of a tooth or
teeth. Structural damage can be caused as a result of tooth decay, wear
or trauma. After the removal of a problematic tooth structure, the tooth
is restored with one of several filling materials: gold, amalgam,
composite resin (white filling material) or porcelain. Each filling
material has its advantages and disadvantages. Your dentist will work
with you to determine which material is appropriate for you.
» Bonding: Bonding is
the term used to describe the process of using composite resins to
“glue” materials to the surface of a tooth for restorative purposes.
Chipped or cracked teeth are typically repaired through bonding. An
enamel-like composite material is applied to the surface of a tooth,
sculpted into shape, contoured and polished, making the crack or chip
invisible.
» Orthodontics: Misaligned
teeth and malocclusions can be straightened and corrected with dental
braces and retainers. Orthodontics is both a functional and cosmetic
treatment, and has become an increasingly popular field of dentistry.
» Dental Crowns: Dental
crowns, also known as “caps,” preserve the functionality of damaged
teeth. A dental crown may be used to protect a cracked tooth, restore
functionality of a tooth with excessive decay or replace a pre-existing
crown. The purpose of a dental crown is to encase a needy tooth with a
custom-designed material
» Dental Bridges: These are an extension of the dental crown treatment for replacement of missing teeth. Crowns are placed on the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth or teeth and connected to a missing tooth-like replica.
» Dentures: Dentures
are used to replace missing teeth or damaged teeth that cannot be
otherwise repaired. Acrylic / Plastic dentures may be used, or the newer
and more sophisticated Chrome/ Metal based Dentures may be constructed.
» Periodontal (Gum Disease)
Treatment: Early gum disease treatment may include tooth scaling
and cleaning at three-month intervals along with use of medicated
mouthwash and proper flossing.
Root Canal Therapy
Root canal
therapy or endodontic treatment consists of the removal of inflamed or
infected pulp tissue (dental nerve) and the cleansing and sealing of the
internal tooth structure.
Root canal treatment may be necessary in cases where there is advanced
decay, trauma to the tooth, periodontal disease, bruxism (teeth
grinding) or cracked teeth.
We use the latest techniques (Rotary Endodontics ) and technology for Root Canals which have been proven to produce more successful results.
